As of June 16, 2023, Literacy and Leadership Empowerment Inc. (LLE) officially closed the doors of our 501c3 nonprofit. However, our individual founders and tutors will no doubt continue to be involved with school and afterschool literacy programs for at risk youth!
It has been our privilege to help Baltimore City elementary students develop strong foundations which equip youth for lifelong academic success, confidence, and positive motivation. Our students’ success has resulted in hope and joy for their families and communities.
Since becoming a nonprofit in 2008, LLE has provided small group tutoring in partnership with a variety of wonderful organizations including: Fr. Charles Hall Catholic School/St. Peter Claver Church, St. Francis Neighborhood Community Center, Greenmount Recreation Center, and New Song Academy. Using an individualized hands-on, multisensory student notebook, our trained tutors have given youth from low-income communities access to the same type of Orton based tutoring prevalent in wealthier communities.
We have given our remaining funds to two wonderful nonprofit organizations: Brown Memorial Church for the Brown Memorial Tutoring Program in Bolton Hill, and the community centered East Baltimore Graffiti Church for their youth literacy programs. Former tutors also plan to be involved with a neighborhood based 501c3 nonprofit, ‘The Balm of Gilead Outreach Ministry’ (jfadiora@gmail.com) with their budding children’s literacy center.
Our work has been made possible by donors, partnering organizations, and dynamic volunteers, including students from area high schools and universities. All of these rich relationships have served to broaden horizons, build bridges, and bring joy to people from varied walks of life… Our heartfelt thanks to you for making us a better community by improving the lives of Baltimore City youth!
