85% of Baltimore fourth grade students are reading below grade level and low confidence, poor skills make it very challenging for these students to improve their situation. Literacy is a cornerstone to self-esteem as well as to academic and career success. Poor literacy is also linked to school dropout, low economic attainment, and a host of poverty related problems.
